After Christmas Lower and Middle Back Workout

by Her Happy Balance on December 27, 2012

The champagne toasts have all been made, the cookies baked, and the presents unwrapped. Unfortunately all the fun Christmas festivities are over, but the extra pounds put on in those couple days are still hanging around. Even though I didn’t go too crazy on all of the cheesy, sugary, buttery foods, I definitely ate some foods that I usually try to avoid. I regret nothing. I love food and believe that everyone occasionally deserves a treat. But now it’s time to get back on track with things and so this is my day-after-Christmas workout:

Back workout bonanza

I think the hardest part of this workout was getting the motivation to get off of my butt and put my sweat pants aside and actually get to the gym! Once I was there, I felt exhilarated and was happy to be getting back on track. When I was through with the workout I enjoyed a chocolate protein shake and a shower, perfect!

A yummy treat after a rough workout!

And here’s the facts on the protein:

I only use a single scoop instead of 3, thats still 20g of protein!

And now….I’m officially back to being a gym rat 🙂

What was your first workout after Christmas?

Did you get any health-related gifts this year?

What gets you motivated to go back to the gym/working out?

That workout sounded like a bit of a beast!!! 🙂 no health related gifts this year but a deffinate lack of edible gifts from family and friends who are trying to support my ‘thin for 30’ mission!! 🙂
My gym return starts next week…. It’s gonna hurt I know it!!! 🙂 x

Sounds like you have a crazy and exciting year ahead of you! And the back workout definitely still has me sore today! Good luck on your return to the gym!

That workout looks awesome! I’ve definitely been “living it up” the past week or so too. I had a hard time getting to the gym today, but was so glad I did!! I’m looking forward to the New Year and the order and discipline that follows. 😉

Thank you! And I definitely agree, let the resolutions and goal making begin!

I love the workout! I have definitely been slacking! I miss going to the gym and doing things that hard to do at home like back extensions and assisted pull ups!

Her Happy Balance December 28, 2012 at 4:22 pm

Thank you, girly! Yeah the gym definitely has it’s pluses. What kind of workouts have you been doing at home/without the gym?

Sarah January 3, 2013 at 10:58 am

I usually just do plank work, push ups, squats, lunges..that kind of fun stuff 🙂 I do have 5 and 10 pound DBs at home, so I try to incorporate different muscle groups into an exercise, such as a dead lift to shoulder press or a lunge with a singe arm back row or burpees with the 5 pounders…..

Our upper body work out is almost the same! I just add vertical press (3 sets of 15 – 45 lbs) and tricep curls (side and vertical). And I love Strawberry-Banana Muscle Milk as post-work out protein drink 🙂

Her Happy Balance December 28, 2012 at 4:23 pm

Ooo Strawberry-Banana Muscle Milke sounds good, I’ve never tried it! What are the carb and protein stats on it?

maryana90 December 29, 2012 at 10:42 pm

1 scoop: 150 calories, 6 g. of fat, 9 g. of carbs and 16 g of protein. I’ve tried several of protein powders and this one is by far my most favorite.

I’ll have to look into it!
