Chicken Wontons

by Her Happy Balance on December 23, 2013

What’s your go-to dish when you get invited to a last minute party? Do you opt to bring a store-bought cookie or fruit tray? Grab a bag of tortilla chips and some salsa? While those are some great options…why not impress the pants off of the other party guests with a super simple appetizer? You can whip up these chicken wontons in 20 minutes or less! And I promise Martha and Betty would be proud 😉

  1. 2 12.5oz. Cans of chunk chicken breast in water
  2. 1 Red bell pepper
  3. 1/2 Sweet onion
  4. 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  5. 2/3 Cup Mayonaise
  6. 1/4 Cup Parmesan cheese
  7. 1 Tsp. Dried oregano
  8. 1 Tsp. Garlic powder
  9. 1 Tsp. Onion powder
  10. 1 Handful of fresh basil, roughly chopped
  11. Cracked pepper to taste
  12. 1 Package of Wonton Wrappers
  1. Heat oil in a pan. Finely chop pepper and onion and add it to the pan, cook until soft. In the meantime, combine chicken, mayonnaise, cheese, and spices in a bowl. Add cooked peppers and onions to the mix. Grease a muffin tin, and place one wonton wrapper into each indentation. Add about a tablespoon of chicken mixture into each wonton cup. Cook in a 400 degree oven for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges of the wonton became golden brown. Enjoy!

Wontons in Muffin Pan

The wontons make this snack look very put together, but they’re the easiest part! Just pick up a package of the wontons in the vegetable/produce section of your grocery store and you’re halfway there. Most of the other ingredients are pantry/refrigerator staples. You could definitely use dried basil instead of fresh, but if you have fresh on hand I would opt for that. And the mayonnaise could easily be swapped out for Greek yogurt to make this appetizer a bit healthier.

What’s your go-to quick party dish?
What’s your favorite appetizer? I’ve got to go with nachos! Or something fancy like Ahi Tuna bites.

Oh hot damn! Those look Delicious!! When there’s a party or any holiday really, I’m always the first to ask who’s making or bringing dessert. I have more fun making desserts haha 🙂 But I’ll have to keep these in mind for the next holiday 🙂

Thanks for this quick recipe. I’m going to hang onto this for a party this weekend. If i’m not totally burnt out on cooking by then 🙂

My favorite appetizers are guacamole (chips not necessary), cheese + crackers and ahi sashimi. I can’t pick just one.

These look really good! I’ve never thought of making wontons like that. My to go is guacamole and hummus. Easy and quick to make!

That looks so good! I normally am not a huge appetizer person, so I don’t have really high tastes in that area. I actually love pigs in a blanket and some good cheese and crackers.

These are so cute, and I love finger foods!! My go to would be my quintessential quinoa dish. I just made some last week for my holiday work party!! So good.
