Drenched 5k Run Recap

by Her Happy Balance on September 12, 2013

I mentioned a little while back that I was planning on running the Drenched 5k race. Well, it was on August 17th in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia and I just got my photos back this past weekend. I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the race and some moments that were captured.

I ran the race with Nicole and her fiancΓ©, as well as with my guy (of course). We all met up and drove down to the park together. We got there pretty early, so we had a chance to take the whole race in, and what we noticed was that it was a pretty small race. There were only approximately 2000 runners; definitely a much smaller crowd in comparison to other fun runs. A local radio station came out to DJ as well as a local Boot Camp to offer a pre-race workout. We chose to hang out and take photos instead πŸ™‚

When it was time to race, we all lined up, and they brought out the fireman’s hose! They soaked the crap out of us before we even started running! Unfortunately, it was a pretty chilly morning for August and it was actually a bit cold. Oh well! And then we were off running!

It was a pretty decent race course, a little bit hilly here and there, but nothing awful. What we did notice was a lack of water though! After the start, we only went through 3 or 4 small water zones. We ran through a sprinkler at around mile 1.5 and then got caught up in a foam zone at mile 2.

And there was another guy with a hose at the end of the race that essentially aimed the hose directly at my face. Thank you for that, sir.

And then at the end of the race they had a big blow-up slide n’ slide filled with foam. However, the line to go down it was obscenely long, so we skipped it and picked up our bananas and water bottles instead…and of course took more photos.

We all had a good time together, but you could tell that this was a newer race that was still working out the kinks. We did end up drenched as promised though!

What are your thoughts on fun runs, yea or nay?

Do you have awful, awkward looking race day photos as well?

how awesome, esp the foam pit πŸ™‚

my first race is coming up and i’ll be hella ugly in those because it’s tough mudder so i’ll be covered in mud and being electrocuted so that’ll make for awesome pics πŸ™‚

The foam zone looks like a lot of fun, but I feel like it’d be annoying as h-e-double-hockey-sticks to run while completely drenched. I mean, most people choose NOT to run in the rain for that reason… πŸ˜‰ I’m glad you had fun, though! And who doesn’t have at least 1 awkward looking race photo…per race! πŸ˜›

Looks so fun! I am not a huge fan of these fun runs but everyone else seems to enjoy them!

This 5k sounds like a blast, especially the foam zone! I love fun runs! They’re so laid back and you don’t have to worry about time or pretty much anything.

This makes them look like so much fun!! I’m not big into the fun runs, I get way to serious about my races hahaha, I need to chill out. I don’t think I would like a drenched race, only because I don’t like getting wet while running, unless it’s because it’s raining, I can’t control that. I always have awful race photos hahaha I always seem to look like I’m about to fall over and die.

I did the Philly Color Run last year and loved it! It was so much fun and I’d do it again, definitely!

I have yet to run a fun run and I really want to. This looks like it would be an awesome run for the FL heat in the summer! I wonder if there are any near me. I think fun runs are a great way to take the pressure off of racing, but are also a great way to spend time with friends!

Fun runs – yes! If that’s what you’re into.. do it!
My race-day photos always make me feel more like a plodder than a runner!
