Friday Favorites – 1/10/14

by Her Happy Balance on January 10, 2014

Happy almost weekend! This was my first full week back at work since Christmas and New Year’s and I have to say, it went by pretty quickly. I’m very thankful for that. I’m excited to get this weekend under way πŸ™‚ Now, onto zee Friday favorites!

I’ve recently changed up my beauty game a bit. I’m trying to incorporate more products without harmful parabens. I’m trying Whole Food’s 365 brand moisturizing lotion as my face cream in the mornings. Honestly, I like my Olay face moisturizer better, but this cream is safer. My one complaint is that it smells like paste. It reminds me of day camp and elementary school. Besides the smell, it’s doing a good job at keeping my skin soft. My skin always gets dry in the winter and I couldn’t imagine not using a moisturizer.

Another beauty product that I have been itching to try for the longest time is the Yes to brand toiletries. I received an Amazon gift card during the holidays and decided to use it on the Yes To Tomatoes Volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Both products are paraben free, 99%+ organic, and utilize the benefits of fruits and veggies. They were very affordable and I was pleasantly surprised at their performance. You know how sometimes healthier/safer beauty products don’t work as well? I was kind of worried that these would leave my hair greasy because they don’t contain harsh detergents, just a mild detergent originating from coconuts. I’m happy to say that they worked out just fine πŸ™‚ The only noticeable difference in the shampoo was that is seemed slipperier when I was using it if that makes any sense.

I tried to get a new planner at Staples last week and was surprised at how spendy they can be! I really would love an Erin Condren planner, but that’s not exactly in the budget right now. I scoped out Amazon again and found this one. I’ve been loving it! I record my workouts in it and use it as a gratitude journal.

As everyone and their long lost cousin twice removed knows, the weather this week was bananas! The air on Tuesday in Philly felt like -12 degrees. It was an absolute joy walking from the train station into work that morning! These little babies were a big help though! I love their name, Little Hotties πŸ˜‰ They made the morning commute slightly more bearable.

I also found this really cool energy bar called Yaff bar in a recent Bulu box. It’s a bar that’s made for you and your dog to share on hikes and runs! Super cool, right? I don’t have a dog, and I was hungry on the train, so I ended up housing the full thing on my own. No regrets, it was delicious. It’s also wheat/dairy/caffeine free.

And just for fun, I recently saw this article about the books you need to read now before their perspective movies come out in theaters soon. The Monuments Men looks really good!

Have a wonderful weekend! Do something that makes you happy πŸ™‚

What shampoo/conditioner are you currently using? Are you concerned with parabens?
Do you keep a planner?
What’s your favorite book that became a movie? Which was better – the book or the movie?

I just noticed that my Target has expanded their “Yes To” product selection so I’m excited to try a few things! I already use the Yes To Carrots moisturizing lotion and I love it!

I recently switched my face wash regime over to more natural products too. I’m using Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration line (my face gets so dry during the winter), and I’m loving it so far!

I’m wanting to switch over to a more natural shampoo and conditioner as well. I may have to try the Say Yes to line. Their face wash wasn’t my favorite, but I will definitely look at their hair line!

You just might be my new favorite person. I am trying to switch things up in beauty in the beauty line. I am already disgusted by the majority of processed foods so I mean what the difference b/w beauty products and things we rub all on our bodies!

I’m a nerd. I love planners. I will go to the book store and stare at them forever to find the perfect, most colorful pretty (and effective one) πŸ™‚

I want to try the Yes To brand!! Maybe once I use up the stuff I have right now. I’m using the Keratin infused Tresemme. I keep a planner, and a huge calendar and a huge white board. Writing things a million times helps me to make sure I will remember everything haha. Well it looks like I’ll be very busy with a long reading list this year πŸ™‚ Have a great weekend πŸ™‚

I can’t live without moisturizer- winter or summer. I’m a fan of Aveeno lotion. Also, I usually buy my hair products based on what’s on sale. πŸ™‚ But Herbal Essences is a fave!

One of my favorite things to have handy are the Yes to Cucumbers facial wipes! I carry them in my gym bag. They smell amazing too! Love that product!

Yaff Bar?! Toothless is usually in my face drooling for whatever I’m eating. He’d be pumped if I actually shared. I’ll check these out. I’m into natural products as long as they stack up to their chemical laden counterparts. The only exception is my skin. I tried to do the natural thing for awhile and my skin revolted. I need chemicals on my face πŸ™‚ Have a good weekend, Leslee!!

I used to want to be all natural with my beauty products but then I felt like I was spending so much money on stuff that didn’t really work. I do want to try again, though. I used Yes to Carrots for a long time and loved it. I love how big the bottles are! I might check out that lotion from whole foods. I loooove their beauty section! Happy Friday, Leslee!
