Friday Favorites! (9/20/13)

by Her Happy Balance on September 20, 2013

Happy Friday, everyone! I recently came across a quote that I’d like to share with you all:

“The first wealth is health.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I couldn’t agree more! There’s your daily dose of wisdom to start your weekend off on a good note. Now onto the favorites!

Lots of good things happened this week, including a lunch break trip to the pond (close to my work) to feed some fish! I forgot who told me, but someone recently mentioned that they read a study where people who spent more time outside felt more connected to nature and thus happier with their life and less depressed. Seems pretty obvious to me, but now we have a fancy shmancy study to support this.

Have you seen those little EOS lip balm pods in stores? The people at Evolution of Smooth (EOS) sent me the blueberry acai lip balm to try out and I am in love! It smells delicious, it’s paraben and petroleum free, 100% natural, 95% organic, and the shea butter and vitamin E are making my lips very happy. I actually think I may be addicted to lip balm. It seems like my lips are chronically dry ever since my days of using tanning beds, and now I carry one with me at all times. This one is so cute, though. Plus acai berries are loaded with antioxidants, so if I’m absorbing some of those too then I am a happy camper.

Am I the only person out there who thinks sushi is a sexy food? What, you don’t categorize your food like that? You are missing out. Move over chocolate, raw fish is hot. Okay fine, chocolate is sexy too. But there’s just something about using chop sticks to pick up slabs of raw fish which you then dip into spicy wasabi and elegantly eat that I love. I crave sushi almost hourly and loved breaking up the work week with a mid-week sushi dinner date.

This weather is glorious! Fall officially hits this weekend and the temperatures have really started to dip in Philadelphia. The air is especially brisk in the mornings when I walk into work. I even broke out the North Face jacket this week to keep me snuggly when I’m waiting for the train <--- story of my life. However, when it comes to chilly temps, I have a strict foot ware policy. Somewhere along the line, I decided that I would not allow myself to bring out the traditional UGG boots until October. This policy developed (I think) when I was in high school and the coolest "trend" was to wear UGG boots in the summer with mini skirts. That, my friends, is just not right. Ain't nobody got time for sweaty feet in July. Anyway, end tangent. North Face Denali with Hood

And finally, try these Beanfields Bean & Rice Chips. I got a bag in my Bulu Box this month and they are so flavorful! Plus, they’re gluten-free, vegan, corn-free, non-GMO, and pack a punch with the fiber and protein. I haven’t checked to see how readily accessible they are in stores, but I really want more. Someone find them and ship me a bag or twelve, please? 🙂

Have a wonderful Fall weekend!

What foods do you find “sexy”?

Ever tried EOS lip balms?

Do you have any clothing policies? No white after labor day?

FTC: EOS provided me with a lip balm free of purchase in exchange for review, no other compensation was provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love that philosophy! Most days I am with you, comfort > fashion. But every once in a while I like to get dressed up and try to put a nice outfit together. It’s fun to balance both.

Haha, back in college I wore ugg boots with denim skirts. WTF was I thinking! But I agree, it definitely has to be at least October for me to whip those babies out. Ugg actually has a few options this year that are nice leather boots with ugg material inside! More age-appropriate and very cute!

Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne September 20, 2013 at 8:57 am

I’m completely agree with the study haha mainly because I’ve always been happier outside. And that quote, I’m pretty much in love with it!! I’m a huge supporter of EOS, and it’s all I’ll use anymore. And now that I’m thinking about it, since they are 95% organic (one of the big reasons I love it so much) I should really try their lotion, especially since I can’t find one that won’t make me itchy. Mid week dinner dates are the best!! Mmmm those chips sound super good!!! I might have to looking for a bag to buy now 😉 I agree with no UGGS in July, that’s just weird, and it doesn’t look good with skirts, I’m sorry, no wait, I’m not sorry haha. I wait until I know it’s going to be cool all day. I don’t want to deal with my own sweaty feet!

Angela @ Health's Angel September 20, 2013 at 11:16 am

I agree…sushi is sexy! I think it’s good date food. And if a dude appreciates good sushi he gets points. 😉 Haha.
I hate the “no white after labor day” rule. White is my favorite color so I wear it year round. I get depressed when summer ends and try to extend it for as long as possible, so I don’t like to bust out fall clothes until it’s absolutely necessary! Aka no boots until October for me!

Her Happy Balance September 24, 2013 at 12:22 pm

I usually tend to rush the seasons, but this year I was not ready for the summer to end. Does that mean I’m growing up? Haha. And white is apparently very in this fall so you go for it girlfrannn!

I love that you went and sat by a pond for lunch one day. I simply walked outside and sat on the steps by my building and ate lunch. It was so pretty I couldn’t resist gettin’ some fresh air and Vitamin D 🙂 I’m with you on the lip balm, although my go to is Dr. Pepper. I loved it when I was little and I love it again now. It’s the perfect color 🙂 I’m sure it’s chalk full of chemicals but whatevs. I haven’t tried EOS yet. I am so jealous of how much you consume sushi! I want some now 🙁 Sexy food, let’s see…should I be a child and say bananas? Haha, I’m not sure what I consider sexy. Sushi is displayed beautifully so I understand what you mean. Um gross to UGGs in the summer. Eff that. I wasn’t even on board the UGG train in general until my grandmother got me some and I fell in love with how comfy they are. Although, the left one twists the leg of my pants and it’s annoying as fuck. Otherwise I love them and won’t wear them for a while. I need sweaters badly. I hate when people don’t wear coats in the winter (ahem, Meghan! <– worst offender) and it's cold as fuck outside. Can't get away with that where you are. Have a wonderful weekend lover girl pretty face 🙂

Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures September 20, 2013 at 4:57 pm

whatever bitch, it’s because i’m hardcore and can handle the cold. coats are lame.

Her Happy Balance September 24, 2013 at 12:21 pm

You two are my favorites. The end <3

Nicole @ Fruitnfitness September 20, 2013 at 3:48 pm

Elegantly eat? Haha I don’t think anyone who has gone to sushi with me would agree. I feel like I always end up with huge bites and chewing awkwardly. That being said I still love sushi. I used to use Chapstick all the time and now I usually jut put coconut oil on at night before going to sleep. I don’t know what foods I think of as sexy foods, maybe Italian because it reminds me of Italy and Italy is romantic.

Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures September 20, 2013 at 4:54 pm

Oh my beautiful bloggy besty! I love the north face selfie! I used to have that same one (of course) but I either lost it or it got stolen. Either way I miss it. Did you steal it back in high school from me? Hmm, suspicious… LOL! 🙂
SUSHI IS SO SEXY! Not as sexy as I am, but it’s a darn close call. I keeeed, I jest, I kid. Sushi is amazing and I have to have it like every week or I have withdrawals. That was one thing we neglected to do while you were here… Come back please?
I love that EOS stuff. I buy it in bulk via Costco and have such a hard time picking which one to use first! They are amazing and I love the unique shape of them!
Glad we have legit reasoning to spend more time outside… As if my running legs needed an excuse… Nope!
Have a wonderful weekend my love! MISS yOU!!!

Meredith September 23, 2013 at 12:24 pm

“If we have our health, we are wealthy”…my Nana says that constantly!! Loving your necklace, and I broke out my North face this weekend, too. I try not to wear white after labor day in new England, but in warm climates, I don’t follow my own rule…so if I’m on vacation, white pants in Florida/vegas/wherever during the winter seems A-Okay to me!

Her Happy Balance September 24, 2013 at 12:20 pm

Love what your Nana says! That is too true 🙂 Apparently white is still very in. I was reading up a little bit on how Fashion week trends went and white is a hot Fall color, so interesting!

Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen September 23, 2013 at 12:56 pm

I love that Eos lip balm. And yes, sushi is totally a sexy food! Love it 🙂

em@simplypresent September 24, 2013 at 8:44 pm

I really agree with the quote you posted. If your health is poor you end up spending more money on treatments and medication. Plus you can’t enjoy life as much!

I haven’t tried that lip balm. My favorite is Burt’s Bees with Pomegranate Oil 🙂
