Half Marathon Training – Week 8 Recap!

by Her Happy Balance on August 26, 2014

Happy Tuesday, all! Hope your week has started on a good note! Today I’m recapping week 8 of my half marathon training. I spent the entire week down the shore with family on vacation, so the workouts were a little different than usual.

Half Marathon Training Week 8

Monday:
3.5 mi. run outside

Thursday:
7 mi. run outside

Saturday:
10.5 mi. run outside

Because I was at the beach and didn’t have a gym available to me, all of my non-running days were spent doing similar workouts. I did lots of core work (bicycle crunches, planks, etc.), yoga, and body weight exercises like push-ups and squats. Walks on the beach and biking around town were also helpful to keep my body moving.

As for the runs, the 3.5 miler was no big deal, but the 7 and 10.5 ones really took a lot out of me. I ran the 7 miler on a super hot morning directly in the sun…there aren’t a lot of trees for shade on an island. The 10 miler I did while running over the Ocean City to Somer’s Point 9th street bridge. If you’re familiar with this area, then you know that this bridge experiences some serious climbs and dips in elevation. It was fun to change things up running over the bay instead of down by the ocean.

Overall, I think I kept my fitness level up while away on vacation. I made sure to stay active and eat pretty healthfully. But Iam definitely happy to be back home hitting the elliptical and pumping some iron in the gym.

Thoughts??
Do you pack athletic wear to take on vacations? Or do you take some time off from working out?
Favorite shore spot? Always OCNJ.

I always take my workout clothes away with me. I try to keep my workouts the same and I indulge with my food.

Great job on getting 20+ miles in while on vacation!! Workout clothes are a must for me while on vacation. I practically live in them.
