His & Hers Running Gear Must-Haves

by Her Happy Balance on October 2, 2015

Today I thought I’d give a peek into my workout clothes closet by sharing my running gear must-haves. The manfriend has been busy the last couple of months training for a few Tough Mudder races, so he is very into running right now as well and wanted to weigh in on his must-have running items, too!

Running gear must-haves for him and her

The weather seems to have finally taken a permanent shift in the fall direction, as evidenced by my hair blowing wildly in the wind – haha! And with the breezier days come different athletic gear to brave the new climate.

Charles River Apparel Jackets

We both recently received new windbreakers from Charles River Apparel and they were perfect this past weekend down the shore for windy beach and boardwalk runs. The women’s version features an inner knit hand warmer with thumbholes, princess seams for a more feminine silhouette and a stand up collar with chin guard to protect your chin and face from the wind. The men’s version comes with adjustable tabbed cuffs, a zippered vertical chest pocket and also features the stand up collar with chin guard. Both of our jackets are made with a naturally breathable and water-resistant polyester and spandex fabric and each has bottom side pockets. I decided to order my jacket a size up so that I can layer numerous tops under it once the temperatures drop down further, and I’m very happy with that decision.

running accessories

As for accessories, we each have our fair share of running favorites. Here’s a little breakdown of what each of us uses to make pavement pounding easier and more enjoyable.

Her Accessories:
GPS Watch by Garmin, Forerunner 15
Bluetooth Headphones by Plantronics, BackBeat FIT in Blue
Headband by Violet Love Headbands
Fitness Running Belt by FlipBelt in Pink
Sunglasses by Under Armour, Marbella Sunglass

His Accessories:
GPS Watch by Polar, M400
Bluetooth Headphones by Plantronics, BackBeat FIT in Green
Knee Patellar Tendon Strap by Pro-Tec
Fitness Running belt by FlipBelt in Black
Sunglasses by Oakley, Flak Jacket XLJ

The weather this weekend is calling for a chance of rain with morning temperature lows in the upper 40s and low 50s – it should make for some interesting long run weather! Cross your fingers that the rain drops hold out and our running must-haves keep us warm and prepared for 19 miles.

What is one item on your running must-have list?
Jacket thumbholes – yea or nay?
What was your most recent athletic gear purchase?

This is so cute! I would love to beef up my husband’s “running/workout” gear! My drawer is practically overflowing, and he’s lucky if he can find a shirt to wear hahaha. Love your outfit choices!

Thank you, Sarah! 🙂 I am currently in the process of working on the manfriend’s workout attire. I vote we ditch their old, cotton workout shirts in place of tech fiber shirts that will actually hold up and not get completely gross at the gym haha!

This is awesome! I doubt my boyfriend would ever pose for pictures with me, but I think free gear might convince him 😉 It would esp be fun since we’re both active and have our preferences on running gear! Love this little photo shoot and all the fun gadgets!

Haha – yes, new gear was definitely a selling point 😉 I’m always so curious as to what other people are wearing and using so it seemed like a fun way to give a little insight into my life.

I definitely need to invest in Bluetooth headphones! I love jacket thumbholes, they’re a must! I recently bought reflective yarn to make some running beanies just in case it will actually get cold this year in Vegas.

Bluetooth headphones were honestly game-changing for me – I won’t use anything else now! And I was just thinking that I need to get more reflective gear…I was thinking some sort of light or armbands to wear for dark runs. It’s getting darker earlier and earlier here every day – ugh!
