Kernel Season’s

by Her Happy Balance on December 10, 2013

I like to snack. In fact, I would much rather make a meal of snacks sometimes than actually cook up a whole dinner. I’ve always loved a nice bowl of popcorn and planting my butt on the couch for a movie marathon. Recently, I’ve gotten on to air-popping my own popcorn to try and make this snack a little bit healthier. But have you ever noticed that without all of those buttery chemicals (like the ones in a normal bag of microwave popcorn) popcorn can taste a bit bland? I’m all for going the healthy route, but I’m not about sacrificing flavor. My air-popped kernels needed an upgrade. Enter Kernel Season’s

I was sent 8 different flavorings –Butter, Kettle Corn, Caramel, White Cheddar, Garlic Parmesan, Ranch, Bacon Cheddar, and Nacho Cheddar– to help liven up my snack. The first thing I noticed about these seasonings was their ingredients list; they weren’t too long and I could pronounce everything. For example, the two main ingredients in Kettle Corn were cane sugar and salt. However, I do want to note that these seasonings do contain silicon dioxide. This compound helps keep the powder from caking and is nontoxic when ingested. It’s in a lot of soups and coffee creamers. I understand why the seasonings need this ingredient, I just would prefer if they could have gone without it. But otherwise, the bottle boasts that it contains nothing artificial. Plus, it’s made in the USA, supporting the American economy is always a bonus.

I also liked that on top of each seasonings lid was a list of other ways that you could use each seasoning. The garlic parm is pretty delicious on pizza. And the caramel would be a nice way to add some flavor to a morning coffee or tea. They’re a pretty fun and affordable treat. It costs $3.99 for each 3oz. seasoning container, and believe me it will last you a long time. I only needed a few shakes to flavor my popcorn. Plus, if you’re looking for a holiday gift idea for a boss, neighbor, or friend, the 8 seasonings popcorn bucket package would be awesome. You could even open up the cellophane and sneak inside a gift card for a movie theatre and give it to a couple for a date night present!

My favorite flavor was Ranch, it took a lot of self-restraint for me not to completely cover every visible popcorn surface with the flavoring. If I had to choose a least favorite I think I would go with the white cheddar. Overall though, each flavor was tasty, and I was happy with how they spiced up my popcorn. We’re all about keeping things exciting and spicy over here 😉

I’ve never tried these! I love ranch anything so I’m sure that would be my favorite. P.S. I got my lunchbox and love it!!

Love popcorn! We go to one particular movie theater because it offers a popcorn flavor bar. So yummy!

That has to be the coolest thing ever! I want a popcorn flavor bar in my local theatre!

I’m not really a popcorn fan, but anything with ranch on it sounds good to me!! Well last month, the boyfriend and I went to see Catching Fire, and before we went we stopped by Whole Foods and made a HUGE salad each and hide them in my purse haha. That was the best “movie snack” I’ve had!

I LOVE popcorn! I have my own air popper and I probably eat popcorn about 3 to 4 nights per week for my evening snack. I’ll never get tired of it :).

I used to love all these flavors! Yummmmmy to that ranch! Dude, yeah never eat microwave popcorn ever again please. That shit is so bad for you. After I discovered that I just bought my own kernels, threw them in a pot with some oil and put it on the heat for a few minutes. Yum yum. I only eat popcorn rarely now since it’s not paleo 🙁 I’m all about some at the movies though. I miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wahhhhhhhhh where are you in my life?!?!?!?

Yum, these sound great! We bought an air popper last year on black Friday and LOVE it! There is something about popcorn that just brings my back to my childhood!

Ok, now I look like a movie watching rookie with my Trader Joe’s packaged stuff. My cousin and I have a tradition when she comes home from college to watch movies she hasn’t seen. This sheltered child has literally never seen anything, so we spend a lot of time on the couch with snacks. Time to step up my game for Christmas break! That bacon cheddar is lookin’ mighty good!!

Mmm I LOVE popcorn, but I hate getting the bagged stuff because of all the crap in it. This looks like a great way to enjoy one of my favorite snacks again 🙂 Garlic parm sounds awesome as does the white cheddar…definitely need to find these in the store next time we go!

I love this stuff! It really does dress up plain old popcorn. I haven’t made my own in a while, since I’m a big fan of the kettle corn bags, but if I do make it, I’m all about butter flavoring. Reminds me of the movies I guess!
