Marathon Training – Week 13 Recap!

by Her Happy Balance on October 6, 2015

Well, if we’re being honest here, marathon training is not getting any easier. I think I’m currently hanging out in the toughest weeks of training. I made it through week 13 without any injuries, so I’m thankful to have another week behind me. Only 7 more until race day…it can’t come soon enough!

marathon training

AM – Gym date with my mom! We worked our biceps and triceps together 🙂

AM – 4.5 mi on the treadmill. I had 5 miles on the schedule, but I was bored out of my mind and the TV entertainment at 5am is pretty lousy.

AM – Chest

AM – 25 mins on the good ol’ arc trainer with a side of the morning news a la the gym TVs.

19 miserable miles. Honestly, this run was just so hard. It was cold out, very windy, and it would rain intermittently. My nose was running the entire time and after 14 miles my hips and glutes were basically ready to throw in the towel. I think I’m getting into the long runs now that really make me question my motive for wanting to run a full. It’s strange to have your body want to crap out before your lungs do. In the past, if I was tired from a run it was because I had a hard time catching my breath. Now my lungs are fine, but my brain is starting to falter and my body is just so sore. I’m thankful the weather wasn’t worse than it was, because initially hurricane rains were predicted for this day. I’m also thankful that I only have two more of these really long runs before marathon day. Homegirl needs a break.

Rest. Much needed. Long runs are starting to make me feel like an old lady.

Because I need inspiration – what was your motive for wanting to run a full marathon?
Did you ever find yourself doubting your ability to do it?
Best advice for a first timer?

Best advice-don’t stop you will regret it.
I think about the veterans who cannot run anymore because they were injured defending the country and then I feel so selfish for wanting to quit it really works. When you realize you have a gift of health when so many wish for it.
Every runner has doubts it is part of the sport. You are so close girl, just keep trying.
