Marathon Training – Week 4 recap!

by Her Happy Balance on August 4, 2015

So I’m officially 20% finished with marathon training – another 16 weeks to go! Seems like I spend all of my free time either running, planning my next run, or resting/recovering.  Anywho, I got another 23 miles under my belt this week and they were some hard ones. Here’s a look at my workouts…

Marathon Training - Week 4

PM – 3 mile treadmill run. I kind of hate still having to run on the treadmill, so I’m trying to make the best of a bad situation by really pushing the speed. On a nice fall day I can run a 10 minute mile; in the heat it goes up to 11 minutes. So on the treadmill, in the nice air conditioning, I’ve been pushing myself to run at around the 9-9:15 pace. And I watch a lot of The Chew on the TVs while doing it…so that’s fun at least.

PM – Gym date with my mom, we did 15 mins. on the arc trainer and shoulders.

PM – 6 miles, hot and humid.

AM – 11 miles of pure death. I used up all of the water in my Camelbak and had to take some walking breaks. It was just so hot. Plus, running 11 miles after having running 6 the night before was not my smartest idea, but it was one of the only times when I could fit the long run in.
PM – Outlet shopping…it’s a workout for my wallet and I shopped till I dropped 😉

Rest day

PM – 3 miles on the treadmill…I forgot to charge my headphones and had to run sans music, whomp!

PM – A kayaking adventure 🙂

On to another week of training! This week I’m going to try and focus more on my nutrition. July was the month of birthdays and thus the month of leftover birthday cake. I need to fuel with more whole foods and less icing 😉

How do you handle running on hot days?
Have you ever broken a long run up into sections? Do some miles in the morning and finish at night?

Hahaha. Please make that a t-shirt! “Shopping: A workout for your wallet!”

Oh man, I do not function running when the sun is out. Thankfully, it was pretty overcast on Sunday when I did my long run, so I was able to manage.
