PRO Compression Sock Review & GIVEAWAY!

by Her Happy Balance on April 16, 2013

*Before we dive into today’s post – which I wrote early yesterday morning before the sad events, I just want to touch on the Boston Marathon. To all those involved, lots of love and support is being sent your way.  You are in my thoughts and prayers. It’s times like these where we need to remember to be kind, be thoughtful, be loving adults and not just to our family and friends, but to our neighbors, coworkers, and the people that cross our paths.*

Now to our normally scheduled post:

Being new to the running world, I’m having a lot of fun experimenting with different running products. One of my favorite finds has been PRO Compression athletic performance socks. The awesome people at PRO Compression sent me a pair of purple marathon socks to test out and I honestly love them.

So what exactly are the benefits to wearing these socks?

“The benefit of wearing compression socks over 26.2 miles, 18 holes or 8 hours at work is the delay of muscular breakdown that comes from spending hours on your feet. PRO Compression works against gravity by helping your vascular system increase blood flow which relieves discomfort and assists in recovery.” -PRO Compression

I received the socks back in March when I was having some shin problems in my right leg.  I believe the shin problem was due to my recent switch from minimalist shoes to supportive running shoes. I have been using the socks for about a month now.  I wear them to bed after run days, occasionally to work, and when I run. Here’s my thoughts:

Pros:

  • From the moment I put them on, my legs and feet felt instantly more supported. They’re snug, but not constricting.  I don’t know if it was the socks, or my legs finally getting used to my new running shoes, but I don’t experience shin pain anymore.
  • The socks “breathe” so my feet don’t feel sweaty or uncomfortable
  • They come in many colors – neons for the adventurous, and white and black for conservatives
  • Can be  machine washed and dried
  • These socks were not made solely for runners! They’re great for golfers and other athletes, as well as people who stay on their feet for long periods of time (nurses, restaurant workers, etc.)
  • PRO Compression also makes calve sleeves and shorter socks for those looking for different options
  • And they’re made in the USA!

Cons:

  • You will have to treat buying these socks as an investment, as the marathon socks cost $50 per pair
  • I haven’t been able to find them in any sporting goods stores, so you will most likely have to purchase them online
Rockin' my socks at night to sleep in!

I have compression pants, but I’ve never tried PRO compression socks before. These would be a better option in the summer when full pants are too hot. And my pants definitely don’t come in such pretty colors 🙂

I’m currently transitioning to barefoot running and it’s been a bit hard on the calves. I think that Pro Compression socks could come in useful in that sense 🙂

Glad I found you on the Sweat Pink Ambassadors site!

I tried a pair on at my local running store but I felt like I looked crazy! Maybe if I won a pair I’d wear them and fall in love. How do you get over the “I look like a crazy person” feeling 🙂
