Rapunzel & the BAMR band Giveaway

by Her Happy Balance on December 12, 2013

Have I ever told you guys I am obsessed with my hair? Not because it’s luxurious and perfect, because unfortunately it is not. No, I am obsessed with my hair because 1- Disney told me to to be and 2- because it never does what I want it to do!

Let’s back up to the Disney princesses thing…did anyone else use a fork to brush their hair like Ariel when they were a kid? I did that at the dinner table one night and I think that was the first official sign to my mother of how weird I was going to turn out to be. Needless to say, I only did it once, as I was told that was inappropriate. Rude.

I may not be Rapunzel exactly, but I do have a decent amount of hair, mostly because I refuse to get a haircut. I think I got a haircut sometime this year? Maybe April? I can’t remember exactly. I don’t like to get them, I’ve had a traumatic haircut experience and ever since I avoid them like the plague. Plus, for the love of God, I want to be Rapunzel! Grow hair, GROW! Recently, I’ve started taking Hair, Skin & Nails vitamins via Delta Labs. Let me tell you, I may have a bunch some split ends, but my hair has been so much shinier recently! I’m crediting the uber, grande amounts of biotin in the vitamin formula for the glow. All the vitamin A, D, E and minerals in it probably deserve some of the credit too. Whatever the miracle formula is, it makes me happy.

But working out with hair, even shiny hair (yay biotin!), in one’s face is just not pleasant. Surprisingly, sweaty hair sprouting out of my head like a Raggedy Ann doll is not my best look. Enter BAMR bands…

BAMR Bands

These headbands were designed by Katie, a blogger, to try and find a solution for slipping headbands. She makes them herself with a variety of super cute patterns.

BAMR band on my head

On the inside of each band, there is a layer of velvet which keeps them from slipping off your head while you workout. I am a big fan of these bands because they aren’t ultra tight and don’t cut off the blood flow to my brain 🙂 Usually the tight rubber band headbands give me headaches and make my face look chubby. I’ve come to terms with it and moved on. I like to wear headbands further back on my head and I was pleased that it didn’t slide back during my treadmill run.

They’re $10 or less for each band and $1 from each sale goes to charity. Plus, these would be great stocking stuffers, and it’s always nice to help support bloggers 🙂 One lucky HHB reader can win a BAMR band of their own by entering the rafflecopter giveaway below!

when i started eating 1/2 an avocado every day, that made a huge difference in my nails, skin and hair. i’ve always had pretty good hair but after having a kid, it kept falling out (probably due to my hormones all wacky) but now that things have calmed down, the avocado was the thing that did the trick for me (at least i think it was).

i’m also way too lazy to get a hair cut on the regular so i just save it for once a year and i go with my 5yr old to the salon for our yearly “back to school” hair cut – she gets hers done and i get mine (btw, she gets hers trimmed throughout the year).

That has to be the most delicious haircare ever. I put actual avocado on my hair before, but the idea of eating some everyday sounds much better. I don’t know if I can manage it everyday because all my avocados get ripe at once and then I have to eat them like a crazy lady, but I think adding avocado maybe twice a week would help. Thanks for sharing this, Kathy! Also love the idea of doing a girls day with your little lady.

I just chopped my hair off about a month ago (I thought I wanted a drastic change), but now I’m having serious hair withdrawals. If those vitamins will help my hair grow faster, then by all means, let me at them! Where do you get them at? Are they online only?

Her Happy Balance December 12, 2013 at 9:53 am

I’ve been there! I did that once as well. I’m sure your new doo looks great though 🙂 Plus you were super brave ad took a leap! You can get the vitamins online at deltalabs.com and if you use the code “happybalance” you get $5 off of your order. I’m a sucker for a discount. I hope your locks start speedily growing for ya 🙂

I’m loving anything neon &/or chevron lately!

Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom December 12, 2013 at 9:50 am

I have super super super thick hair and now that I’m growing it out, I’m in the market for great headbands. I’ve found some that work, but nothing that I’m in love with! I love polka dots on a headband! So cute!

Suzanne @ hello, veggy! December 12, 2013 at 9:50 am

Ooh these bands are exactly what I need. I have a weird shaped head and all the headbands I have slip 🙁

Caitlin December 12, 2013 at 9:58 am

Mmm I like headbands that have lots of color and don’t slip around. I prefer to wear my headbands further back on my head too so it’s good to know that you can do this with these 🙂

Jeni December 12, 2013 at 10:38 am

I have thick hair & kind of a big head, so it can be difficult to find headbands! These look perfect. I really am loving polka dot patterns lately.

Kristen December 12, 2013 at 10:41 am

Like you, I never get my hair cut! Whenever I do I’m nervous about it for days and then usually cry. I have to admit that I’ve found a good stylist in my home town (an hour away) and even though it’s crazy for me to drive out there, it’s worth it because I usually end up liking it and not crying! Why are girls so weird about hair cuts? Anyways, those headbands are really cute! Chevron is my favorite pattern right now (as you can tell from my blog!).

It looks like you have gorgeous thick blonde locks!! I have thick hair too, but I’m currently pregnant and have noticed 2 key things that I actually am loving right now! 1) I am not shedding like a dog!! And I ALWAYS shed. 2) Earlier in my pregnancy ( I’m 29 weeks currently), I had a tough time with my hair and didn’t really know what product to use/didn’t want to spend crazy $ on hair products. One day I decided to just wash it and brush it and leave it.

Best decision! { at least for my hair} It doesn’t feel greasy and looks even thicker. I only really wash it 1-2 days a week but right now, it’s just starting to feel greasy/smell a bit like dirty hair. ha. so I will most likely wash it tomorrow and repeat my current process. 🙂

I get dead ends trimmed every 3-4 months and also get semi-perm. hair color. Can’t WAIT to get it colored again!
sorry for the novel!!

Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne December 12, 2013 at 12:15 pm

Your hair looks so shiny and soft in that picture!! I want to play with it lol. I only wash my hair 3x a week, and I don’t use any thermal tools on it. Yup I freeze to death in the winter haha. I like straight color bands!

Stephanie @ My Freckled Life December 12, 2013 at 12:44 pm

That is the CUTEST chevron headband I’ve ever seen!!! I love the teal blue color!

Ja @Ja on the RUN December 12, 2013 at 2:24 pm

I love the Chevron color green 🙂

Kristina @ Damn Ten Pounds December 12, 2013 at 2:47 pm

Totally tried to brush out my naturally curly hair with a fork. That was fun for my mom.
I had a mishap with a lousy hairdresser and biotin, fish oil and handfuls of spinach in my morning smoothie were the only thing that got my hair back to healthy.

Jess December 12, 2013 at 3:43 pm

Those headbands are do cute! I love the teal ones. Great to hear the vitamins are working for you, your hair is gorgeous!

Carrie H December 12, 2013 at 6:19 pm

I love chevron

Heather @fitncookies December 12, 2013 at 8:49 pm

I’d probably go with the Candy Cane striped one 🙂

Kim @ Racing Bananas December 12, 2013 at 8:59 pm

Black and white chevron!

Becky @ Olives n Wine December 12, 2013 at 9:09 pm

Ooooh I get my hair cut about NEVER 😉 But I am this Saturday and it’s causing me anxiety! I’m totally looking into those pills, BTW!

Her Happy Balance December 12, 2013 at 9:12 pm

Yes, haircut anxiety is a thing, I feel ya. You’ll come out looking stunning though, I have no doubt 😉 If you decide on the vitamins, use my discount “happybalance” for $5 off your order. It’s the biotin, I tell ya!

Stephanie @Cat Lady Runs December 12, 2013 at 10:25 pm

I love sparkly headbands the best!

Carson December 13, 2013 at 10:21 am

I love the chevron patterns!

Taryn December 13, 2013 at 5:41 pm

My hair is finally long enough to put in a ponytail without the assistance of multiple bobby pins (so naturally I’m debating chopping it off again). I’ve been looking for a good headband to make the ponytail look better!

Lesli K December 13, 2013 at 6:15 pm

The chevron is super cute!

Jennifer December 14, 2013 at 2:32 pm

I love the Chevron prints or anything bold & funky!

Talya December 14, 2013 at 10:41 pm

Anything that sparkles!

Marcia (@TooCuteRunner) December 17, 2013 at 6:36 pm

I love the Sparkle or Solids!
