These are my Confessions…

by Her Happy Balance on August 13, 2013

I promise these confessions aren’t on the “Usher scale” of shocking. I don’t have any illegitimate children, no risky secret vices, and no “One time in Reno…” stories. Just some little facts about myself that I want to fess up to.

Confession #1
Okay, try not to shoot eye darts at me through your computer monitor, but I do no like pancakes. I guess I missed the good blogger gene that codes for the love of healthy pancakes. Don’t get me wrong, I can eat pancakes. I could probably enjoy them. But I will most likely never post a recipe for “sugarfree buckwheat flaxseed chia banana-infused dairy-less whipped cream topped cacao nib pancakes.” Just not my thing. I’d rather have some bacon and eggs and maybe an everything bagel or five.

Confession #2
As a little kid, we’re talking like 3 and 4 years old, I would wake up at the butt crack of dawn on the weekends. I’m sure my parents loved the 5am wake up calls of me poking them on a Saturday morning. They used to tell me I had to watch TV or go back to sleep until at least 6am. Poor parents. What does an energetic 4-year-old do before Saturday morning cartoons come on TV? I made peanut butter and sugar sandwiches. Yes, you read that correctly. It explains a lot doesn’t it? I would climb on the bottom ledge of the refrigerator to reach the peanut butter and then slather it on white break and add a big tablespoon or two of white sugar. Yeah. That happened. I guess I thought it was delicious, because the memory of making these diabetes-inducing sandwiches is still fresh in my 23-year-old mind. Luckily, I have gotten past the need for added sugar and white bread. Peanut butter is still pretty dang delicious though.

Confession #3
I think I could make a pretty solid career out of being an interpretive dancer. There will be no pictures to go along with this confession, just accept it as a fact and move on.

Confession #4
I get just as excited about Christmas now as I did when I was five. The day after Halloween marks the beginning of the Holiday season in my book. And I go ALL out. Last year I put together an ugly sweater party, decorated my workplace like the North Pole, and bought about 1000 Christmas presents online and on Black Friday.

Confession #5
I really love to sing, but I have developed a pretty terrible case of stage fright. I took voice lessons for about 10 years or so, sang at the Academy of Music in high school, and always did all the school plays as a kid. I still really love to belt my lungs out to the radio. And I can sing around people if I think they’re not listening, but the moment you ask me to sing for you…ain’t gonna happen. I get so nervous that my voice adapts this ridiculous vibrado that I can’t control. I’m happy being a closet Whitney Houston singer.

Thoughts??

Tell me one of your confessions!

Hahahaha love the PB&J and sugar. So gross, but so funny to think of a little kid doing this. I actually agree with you about the Pancakes thing, except I have a undying love for waffles. Only, my waffle makers are broken, both of them, lol guess that was a waste of money.
Confession: I use to eat ice cream for breakfast during the holidays. I mean, how could you not, they had some pretty good flavors at that time of the year 🙂

Totally with ya on the not liking some of the pancake creations that are circulating the HLB community! When things are TOO healthy, especially something that is supposed to be indulgent, they can turn out pretty bleh. Hahah I love the idea of PB and sugar sandwiches ;). Those must hit all the major food groups, right?

Becky @ Olives n Wine August 13, 2013 at 8:03 am

I now totally have Usher’s song stuck in my head!! And I’m cracking up at each of your confessions 😉 I, too, used to wake my parents up at the crack of dawn but I did it more creepily. I would stand 2 inches away from my dad’s face and stare at him until he woke up, bahahhahaha! He’d have a heart attack each time he opened my eyes and I was {this far} away from him. I was such a little demon. I must say that I never tried PB and sugar sammies though, sounds intriguing 😉

Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness August 13, 2013 at 8:31 am

hahahhaha omg all of these are so so good! that pb and sugar one made me literally laugh out loud. also the pancakes thing- im sorta with you on that- i’ll eat them, and ill ooh and ahh over pictures because they do always LOOK good. but in reality i never order them. and really is there anything better than an ugly sweater party? i dont think there is…

Jessie August 13, 2013 at 9:06 am

I thought I’ve heard of all the ways to include pb on bread.. but obviously I was wrong. PB & sugar? Ha Ha, you crazy girl!

Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures August 13, 2013 at 9:27 am

Could you be any damn cuter? The answer is no. No, you could not be cuter than Leslee bear panda bear this morning. 🙂
Haha, this is why I knew that shirt would be appropriate for you! Though, I must confess to YOU, your dislike of pancakes makes me question your species… Are you human girl, or really a panda? 🙂
I keeeed! I still love you even if you don’t love one of the most delightful breakfasts in the world! Though, I would rather have eggs for breakfast than a pancake so I feel ya there.
OMG. Sugar. Yes. I love that concoction… You were creative at an early age, my dear! Good for you!
And I had no idea you could sing… That’s super cool. If I had known, I would have coaxed it out of you while you were here. Be grateful I didn’t know…. <3 Have a great day my love!!!

Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat August 13, 2013 at 9:31 am

Love your confessions! I’m a serious PB addict, so PB and sugar sandwiches sound pretty much amazing and I want one now! 😉

Wow…you certainly do like Christmas!!! It definitely is an awesome time of year!

Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen August 13, 2013 at 9:43 am

Haha I like the one about being an interpretive dance. Me too! It sounds fun, doesn’t it? Also, I like pancakes, but I’m not crazy about them. I’m with ya’ on the eggs!

Angela @ Health's Angel August 13, 2013 at 11:06 am

I’m with you on the pancakes thing. I mean, I don’t hate them, but I don’t ever make them or order them when I’m out to eat. There are far better breakfast foods out there, IMO.
PB & sugar sandwiches…haha. I don’t think I ever did that as a kid but I definitely ate my fair share of weird/teeth-rotting foods.
Confession: I don’t understand the hype with fro-yo. Eeeeekk. Sorry not sorry, but I’m just not a fan…

Lauren August 13, 2013 at 11:21 am

I LOVE pancakes but I prefer the ones out of the box with chocolate chips and bananas lol. Nothing fancy! And I mark the day after Halloween to be the start of the holiday season, too! I just love everything about it especially driving around looking at Christmas lights!!! I can’t wait!

Caitlin August 13, 2013 at 1:47 pm

Ahhh my brother and I used to get up super early too! No idea how my parents put up with us but I did learn to make toast early on (topped with regular butter and jelly…fav combination for years), so that may have helped 😉 I don’t go for healthy pancakes anymore either. I love my pancakes so if I make/order them I top them with what I want… Butter and syrup 😉 and they’re made from all purpose flour, occasionally stuffed with blueberries or chocolate chips!

Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear? August 13, 2013 at 3:41 pm

Is it bad that those sandwiches sound delicious? hahhahaha

Samantha @ 10,000 Squats August 13, 2013 at 5:28 pm

Oh I fully agree with you about pancakes – give me bacon and eggs any day! Don’t forget a nice chocolate croissant!

Tanya August 13, 2013 at 5:35 pm

My confession is listening to Usher’s confessions for over an hour!

Elyse F. August 13, 2013 at 6:09 pm

hahah! I love this post. I love knowing that other people’s confessions are just as odd-ball as mine are! Here’s my confession: when I was a kid, I literally ate butter sandwiches on white bread, not toasted, just butter. And whenever my mom wasn’t looking, I would stick my finger in the butter container and take out a dollop and straight up eat it.

Also, say around christmas time – if there are excess cookies, brownies, etc. laying around the house, they mysteriously disappear in the middle of the night. Wonder who absconds them???? Definitely not me………… 😉 hahaha

Alex @ therunwithin August 13, 2013 at 8:20 pm

haha peanut butter and sugar sandwiches are a first – I have never heard that combo but hey, sounds good to me. my sister and I were all about snack bowls where we would combine a ton of different snacks and mix it all up. the best!

Meredith August 14, 2013 at 6:26 pm

Love these, so much fun to learn more about you! I especially the pb and sugar confession. My sisters and I used to sneak downstairs and make white bread with butter and cinnamon sugar sandwiches, so you’re not alone in that! We were not very stealth and would leave a sugar trail every single time! Sometimes I wonder how my mother survived 😉

Jess August 14, 2013 at 6:40 pm

I am exactly like that with playing the piano. I cannot play for other people. I get so nervous my hands shake and I can’t play. Ridiculous. I’m not huge on pancakes either! 🙂

kathy @ vodka and soda August 15, 2013 at 11:20 am

my confession: i tuck my shirts into my underwear like a 5yr old and i’m 37. now i’m embarrassed that you know!
